LaSALLE, Ill. – For the second time in a row this fall season, the University of St. Francis men’s golf team earned second-place honors as the Saints produced a two-round 600 team score at the Illinois Valley Community College Invitational held this week (Sept. 21-22).
USF carded an opening-round 304 stroke output in Monday’s (Sept. 21) play before registering a second-round 296 score, which represented the tournament’s second-best second-round total, to register a combined 600 (+24) team score and as a result claim a runner-up finish in the 12-team tourney field. Parkland won the tournament by tallying a 588 score (+12) on the Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Club course.
Tops among USF’s golfers was Brandon Brodzinski (SR/Minooka, Ill.), who fired a 148 score (75-73=148, +4) to tie for sixth place. Kyle Sheppard (SR/Minooka, Ill.) and Cam Pyle (SR/Mokena, Ill.) both tied for eighth place following 150 scores as Sheppard (75-75=150) and Pyle (79=71=150) each notched plus six-over par totals.
Claiming 12th place was Nolan Weis (SO/Lockport, Ill.) with a 152-stroke output (75-77=152, +8) while his brother, John Weis (SO/Lockport, Ill.) shot a 24th-place tying 158 score (80-78=158, +14).
Eric Gasienica (JR/Lockport), who posted a 160 score (80-80=160, +16) finished in a three-way tie for 28th place and EJ Charles (JR/Mokena, Ill.) turned in a 32nd-place tying performance as a result of generating a 162 (78-84=162, +18) on his scorecard. Placing in a five-way tie for 34th place was Jake Hulbert (SR/Morris, Ill.), who notched a 164 (81-83=164, +20).
John Weis along with Charles and Hulbert competed as non-scoring individuals.
USF had opened its 2020 fall season with a second-place showing at its own USF Fall Classic (Sept. 8) in Joliet, Ill., with a single-round 10-over par 294 team score.
The Saints will participate in the Lewis Flyer Intercollegiate Tournament on Sept. 28-29 at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Ill.
