SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois Springfield Cross Country and Track and Field program will host the first UIS-BOS Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning. The race, which is presented by Bank of Springfield, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 8 a.m.
“Being from Springfield I have always wondered why we didn’t have a Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot,” said UIS Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach Tyler Pence. “This is a great way to start off your Thanksgiving Day. Bank of Springfield kindly agreed to sponsor the event as it will be a fundraiser for the UIS Cross Country and Track Program. We hope to see as many people out here as possible!”
The event, which is for all ages and abilities, will start at The Recreation and Athletic Center (TRAC) on the University of Illinois Springfield campus. All of the registration fees and donations will go directly to the UIS Cross Country and Track and Field program.
The cost to enter the race is $25, along with a $2.50 signup fee. The price will increase to $30 if you register after 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 27. Race day registration will take place from 6:30-7:30 a.m., and that will be cash only. Packet pickup will be on Nov. 27 from 4-6 p.m. at TRAC, or from 6:30-7:30 a.m. on race day.
Runners will receive a long sleeve t-shirt for competing, which is guaranteed to those who register before Nov. 14.
