QUINCY – The No. 13 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball team had its six-game win streak snapped on Thursday night with a 67-57 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss at Quincy.

The Tritons (20-3, 11-2) struggled offensively, shooting 37.1 percent, while Quincy (12-9, 6-7), which improved to 8-0 at home, connected at a 53.8 clip, the second highest percentage by an UMSL opponent this season.

The loss also drops the Tritons into a tie for first place in the GLVC standings with Truman State, UMSL’s opponent on Saturday.

A scoring drought by the Tritons to end the first half helped the Hawks to a 34-26 halftime lead. UMSL made 11 of its first 17 field goals, but after a jumper by junior Yaakema Rose Jr. with 6:47 to go that gave UMSL a 26-4 lead, the Tritons would not score the rest of the half, missing its next seven.

A 6-2 start to the second half by the Hawks put the lead into double figures, but the Tritons followed with 11 straight to get back within 40-39 on a Webb jumper with just 15 on the clock. Quincy followed with a 15-4 spurt, capped with seven straight to go back on top 55-43.

  • Junior Jose Grubbs scored 19 points, while redshirt senior Jason Towery and redshirt sophomore Steve Webb also reached double figures with 10 points each.
  • The Tritons were outrebounded, 34-29, with sophomore Kellen King grabbing seven off the bench.
  • Webb pulled down six boards to go with three assists and two steals, while Grubbs also had six rebounds and two steals.
  • UMSL had just seven turnovers, while Quincy committed 17 miscues, which led to a 13-0 scoring advantage by the Tritons.
  • UMSL didn’t go to the free-throw line until 5:27 in the second half.

UMSL will meet Truman State at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
