SPRINGFIELD – The Miners completed their weekend with another GLVC split as they dropped their opening game to Illinois Springfield 7-3 but turned around in game two to defeat the Prairie Stats 8-3.

GAME ONE: MISSOURI S&T-3, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD-7
S&T started the game with a bang; Jacey Allen (Roanoke, TX/Byron Nelson)knocked her third homerun of the season over the left field fence to give the Miners a 1-0 lead after the top of the 1stinning.

The Prairie Stars answered in the bottom half of the inning with two unearned runs. Wickenhauser’s attempt to steal second led to Cokel stealing third and scoring on a Miner error. Almost the same thing would happen during the next UIS batter because of an S&T error and give Illinois Springfield a 2-1 lead.

The Miners would regain their lead in the top of the 4thinning. It began with Lauren King (O’Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North)drew a bases loaded walk to move everyone up a base and send Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township)across the plate.

Courtney Jackson (Parkville, MO/Park Hill South)would pick up an RBI after her sac-fly to center field brought Carley Hamann (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln Way North) home and make it a 3-2 ballgame.

Illinois Springfield came back in the bottom half of the inning with security runs that would eventually give them their win.

After another two errors from the Miners and four hits from the Prairie Stars, UIS was able to connect for four runs to regain their lead and the eventually take the win.

Olivia Walter (Catawissa, MO/Cor Jesu Academy)(4-12) got the start for game one going 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and just two walks.

GAME TWO: MISSOURI S&T-8, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD-3
It was all Missouri S&T in game two for the day; the Miners opened the game with four runs on four hits and would never lose that lead.

Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township)started the trend with she singled to right field and brought Jacey Allen (Roanoke, TX/Byron Nelson)and Carley Hamann (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln Way North)home. Hannah Franceschini (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central)would add two more runs when she singled to left field and sent Young and Gretchen Egly (Joliet, IL/Plainfield Central)around the bases.

After Illinois Springfield got two of their runs backs in the bottom half of the inning, S&T would pick up another run in the 2ndand two more in the 3rd.

Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley)picked up an RBI in the 2ndinning when she singled to right field and brought Anna Burke (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville)home to make it a 5-2 game.

Young and Hamann would score again in the 3rdinning after Hamann drove Young home and then scored on a Prairie Star error. Her run would push the Miners lead out to 7-3. S&T would tack on one last run in the top of the 7thwith an RBI double from Hamann that sent Egly home from second base. It would be more than enough to give the Miners their 8-3 win.

Avery English (Carterville, IL/Carterville)(6-4) got the start for game two going 7.0 full innings with six strikeouts and just two walks.
