Lewis wins GLVC East Divisional race; qualifies for GLVC Cross Country championship

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – For the second time in as many races Lewis’ men’s cross country team came away victorious winning the GLVC East Divisional race on Saturday at the UIS Cross Country in Springfield, Ill. The Flyers finished with 40 points and had three runners finish in the top 10.

The other teams that made it out of the East Divsional this afternoon where Southern Indiana with 47 points, the hosts Illinois Springfield with 68 points and Indianapolis who finished with 71 points.

Freshman Anthony Farmer (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) paced Lewis with a second place finish crossing the line with a time of 24:25. 18. Senior Dustin Macuiba (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) was fourth in a time of 24:47.34 while sophomore Daniel Arimi (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) finished seventh with a time of 25:20.15. Freshman Patrick Hennessey (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger) and senior Dan Laskero (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg)finished 13th and 14th respectively with times of 25:42.50 and 25:48.25. Junior Josh Segura (Lake In The Hills, Ill./Huntley) was 17th in a time of 26:02.00 while sophomore AJ Pulido (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) came in 19th with a time of 26:11.63.

Junior Ricardo Del Toro (Aurora, Ill./Aurora East), freshman Sean Ryan (Independence, Ky./Saint Henry), freshman Casey Quintana (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) and sophomore Michael Jarvis (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville) finished 23rd, 24th, 26th and 29th respectively. Rounding out the field for Lewis was sophomore Wyatt Wolfersberger (Saint Joseph, Ill./St. Joe Ogden) who finished in a time of 26:57.88, freshman Jacob Hinchley (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) crossed the line at 27:08.87 and junior Trey Houmes(Hoopeston, Ill./Hoopeston Area) finished at at 27:11.67.

In the men’s 8K open race, sophomore Johnathan Goetsch (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) and freshman Kasey Turner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) finished first and second with times of 26:03.82 and 27:09.95 respectively. Sophomore Nate Amster (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) came in ninth in a time of 29:00.92 while senior Peter Freeman (Macob, Mich./Lutheran High School) finished 16th with a time of 31:09.68.

The top four finishing teams in the divisional race held today and the top four finishing teams in the GLVC West Divisional race held yesterday will run in the “A” race at the GLVC Championships, while the remaining teams will be in the “B” race. This is due to the protocols in the conference’s “Plan to Proceed” for cross country for the 2020 season, with no race to have more than 80 runners competing at one time.
