ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University senior middle hitter Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) was one of 14 players who will represent USA Volleyball at the 2021 Men’s NORCECA Continental Championship that takes place August 18-23 in Durango, Mexico.
Mitchem had another stellar season in 2021 earning his second straight First Team AVCA All-American honor and third AVCA All-America honor overall. He was also an All-MIVA First Team selection. He finished the 2021 season averaging 2.76 kills and 1.30 blocks per set. Mitchem ranked second in the country in hitting percentage and was third nationally in blocks.
The U.S. Men will play in Pool B along with 2019 NORCECA champion Cuba, Dominican Republic and Guatemala. Pool A will consist of Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago.
USA opens competition against Guatemala on Wednesday (Aug. 18) at 1 p.m. (CDT). The U.S. Men will take on the Dominican Republic in their second pool game on Thursday (Aug. 19) at 6 p.m. (CDT) and then wrap up pool play against Cuba on Friday (Aug. 20) at 6 p.m. (CDT).
The medal round begins on Saturday (Aug. 21) with two quarterfinal contests beginning at 6 p.m. (CDT). The semifinals take place on Sunday (Aug. 22) and the first place and third place matches will be held next Monday (Aug. 23) starting at 6p.m. (CDT).
The U.S. Men took silver at the 2019 NORCECA Championship, falling to Cuba 3-1 in the final.
