ELSAH, Ill. – Lewis’ men’s cross country team won the 2020 Great Lakes Valley Conference Cross CountryChampionship rallying to defeat Southern Indiana in the final kilometer to win its first GLVC Championship since 2004 on Saturday (Oct. 24) at Principia College in Elsah, Ill. The Flyers finished with a score of 51 points to 57 for Southern Indiana.
The championship is the 14th in program history.
Anthony Farmer (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central), Dustin Macuiba, Patrick Hennessey (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger)and Daniel Arimi all finished in the top 15 to earn All-GLVC honors. Farmer was named the GLVC’s Freshman of the Year and head coach James Kearney was named the GLVC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Farmer was the top finisher for the Flyers completing the 8-kilometer course in a time of 24:51.43 to finish second overall behind Illinois Springfield’s Blake Jones. Macuiba crossed the finish line four seconds behind Farmer to finish third. Hennessey was the next runner to cross the line for Lewis finishing 13th in a time of 25:48.01. Arimi came in 14th finishing at 25:49.63.
Ricardo Del Toro (Aurora, Ill./Aurora East) finished 19th overall with a time of 25:59.34, Sean Ryan(Independence, Ky./Saint Henry) came in 28th in a time of 26:18.52, Casey Quintana (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) crossed the finish line in 31st with a time of 26:23.69, Joshua Segura was 34th at 26:28.76, AJ Pulido (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) finished 42nd in a time of 26:49.23 while Dan Laskero was 57th with a time of 27:26.06.
In the men’s 8K open race Jonathan Goetsch (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) finished fifth with a time of 27:2.64 and Michael Jarvis (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville) was seventh at 28:10.75.
