ROMEOVILLE – Lewis’ men’s golf team of Jake Pluth (Shorewood, Ill./), Hunter Pipik (New Berlin, Wisc./New Berlin West), Cole Elmore (Salina, Kan./), Trey Tussey (LaSalle, Ill./) and Dylan Gabbert won the Battle At Blackthorn with a final score of 603 (306-297) while the team of Brett Startz (Magnolia, Texas/), Colin Borowiak (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood), Kelly Dobson (Calabasas, Calif./Oak Park), Ian Fitzpatrick (Winter Garden, Fla./Foundation Academy) and Nicholas Kanzia (/) finished sixth with a total score of 654 (317-337) on Tuesday at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind.
The Flyers began the round in third place trailing Grace College by 15 strokes and Indiana University-Kokomo by eight shots. Lewis finished its final round at +9 while Grace finished at +26 to win the team title by two strokes.
Pluth was the individual medalist in the event posting a score of 147 (74-73) to edge out Pipik who finished a stroke behind in second with a two-day total of 148 (77-71). Pipik posted the only subpar round of the day and just the third in the tournament. Elmore finished in a tie for sixth with IU-Kokomo’s Sam Seagrave with a score of 152. Elmore followed up his round of 76 on Monday with another round of 76 on Tuesday.
Startz finished in a tie for 11th with a score of 155 (74-81) and Tussey finished tied for 13th with a two-day total of 156 (79-77). Gabbert finished his first collegiate event in a tie for 16th by posting a score of 157 (79-78).
Borowiak finished in a tie for 22nd with Huntington’s David Beck as both shot identical scores of 163 (81-82), Dobson finished his first collegiate event in 25th place with a score of 166 (81-85) while Fitzpatrick posted a score of 170 (81-89) and Kanzia finished the event with a score of 189 (94-95).
The Flyers are back on the course on Monday (September 28) as they host the Flyer Intercollegiate at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Ill.
